Local Highlight #5 : Harker House Wine & Spirits
Harker House Wine & Spirits opened July 2016 in the hamlet of Clinton Corners, New York. Located a half mile east of the Taconic State Parkway, the shop is part of a former general store built in the 1800’s. Harker House is compact, focused and well-stocked with hundreds of wines, ciders and spirits.
We have wines around the world with offerings from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany, as well as, domestic bottles from New York, California and Oregon. Harker House focuses on small producers making thoughtful, well-priced wine. Over one third of our wines are certified-organic, biodynamic or sustainably-farmed.
Uniquely, Harker House exclusively carries New York State Spirits. There are over 100 craft distilleries in New York. The distillery boom includes dozens of new operations in the Hudson Valley that support local farms The spirit categories carried by Harker House Wine & Spirits including vodka, gin, rum, bourbon, rye & single malt whiskeys.
The shop owner, Hal Newell, was a Professional Geologist for 20 years. As preparation for opening the store, Hal spent years studying and tasting wines. Hal has visited vineyards & met with winemakers in the classic regions of Bordeaux, Rhone, Piedmonte and Napa Valley, as well as, ancient wine regions like Croatia and Sicily.
